Direction of Earth's rotation?

I understand that Earth rotates eastward and this causes the sun to rise from the east. However, I don't have an intuitive way of explaining this to somebody else. And sometimes I myself forget what rotating eastward means does the earth rotate from the west to east or it's the other way round?
Rotating eastward means turning from west to east. To understand this, imagine a train leaving a station. The station will appear to move backwards, away from the front of the train. However, the train is actually moving from the back towards the front. In a similar vein, the sun appears to rise in the east and set in the west: therefore, the earth is turning from west to east.
