How do I divide (3/4 + 5/2) by (1/2+2/5)? I know that diving by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal.

You are correct. However, first we need to simplify the terms before applying this concept. First, evaluate what is in each parenthesis. With (3/4 +5/2), you can use the lcd (least common denominator), which is 4. Therefore, it would be (3/4 +10/4), which you could easily find to be 13/4. Similarly, with (1/2 + 2/5), use the lcd 10 to make it (5/10 +4/10) which ends up to be 9/10 Finally, using what you said, (13/4) / (9/10) = (13/4) * (10/9), which is 130/36, which can reduced to 65/18.

Fin a common denominator, so on top it would be 13/4 and the bottom would have 9/10, the multiply the top by the reciprocal of the bottom.

You need to first get a common denominator for both separate addition questions. 4 for the first grouping and 10 for the second. So now it is 13/4 divided by 9/10. Now multiply by its reciprocal 130/36 should be your final answer.

The first step is to sole the parentheses. After that find the reciprocal and multiply like normal.
