To find the perimeter of a rectangle, add the lengths of the rectangle's four sides.

STEP 2: Recall what are like terms and add them

STEP 3:

Add the side lengths

(u +1) + u + 2 + 1

Remove the parantheses

u+ 1 + u + 2 + 1

The perimeter is 2u+4.
