Our genes definitely have a role to play in deciding how long we live, and how tall we grow.

However, this does not mean that this is the only factor. For e.g., once we decode the DNA completely sometime in the future, we will not be able to predict with certainty the height a baby grows to; and also how long a baby will live. In other words, our DNA does not dictate our exact height and how long we will live.

The other important factor is nutrition. Good nutrition plays in an important role in ensuring that we live up to our potential.

Usually the gauge is how much of human height is genetic and how much is due to nutrition.  Is that what you were trying to find out? Please specify and we can respond appropriately.
