Step 1: Recall all the properties of the medians, altitudes, angle bisectors, and perpendicular bisectors.

Step 2: Examine the given figure and note down the hints (properties) mentioned in the figure and question.

          EXAMPLE:  Segment is dividing an angle into two congruent angles.


Step 3: Compare the given figure properties with the properties of the median, altitude, angle bisector, and perpendicular bisector.  

        

Step 4: Find the appropriate name to the line segment.

            EXAMPLE: If the given figure has segment connecting a vertex to the midpoint of its opposite side. then you can conclude that it is a median.
