How do I procrastinate lesser and get more work done?

Vivekanand Vellanki

People procrastinate tasks when they do not enjoy the task.

Have you procrastinated watching a movie; or taking a vacation? I guess not. The point is that usually people procrastinate when they dont like the task that needs to be done.

There are a lot of things in life that one has to do but one doesn't enjoy doing. For e.g., most parents do not enjoy changing diapers. However, they cannot afford to procrastinate. Most people learn that such tasks have to be done.

Not procrastinating is learnt; one is not born with it. You have to practice "not procrastinating". You have to practice discipline - starting a task often helps. Most tasks are not as unpleasant as they appear - just starting helps in such cases.

Simple. Own the problem.

People look for inspiration or motivation from outside when all of it is within. All of those will work, but for a lesser amount of time and they expire since they came from outside. As long as they expire, procrastination happens. Eventually.

If you ask me, stop seeking whatever keeps you on to work more from outside. Instead, own the problem. Work towards finding a solution to it. Make it a process and involve yourself. Then only solving it will have meaning and it is worth your effort. If you still procrastinate, ask yourself why you've started in the first place.

Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working - Pablo Picasso.
