Step 1: Put the equation in the form y = mx (+c) and attempting to extract the m

              NOTE: The slope-intercept form of a linear equation is

                                         y = mx + b

                          where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

             EXAMPLE 3x + 5y -2 =0

                                5y = -3x + 2

                               y = \frac{-3}{5}x + \frac{2}{5}

Step 2: Note down the value of slope and y-intercept by comparing the resultant equation with the y = mx + c.
