I have come across a question which asks to state the contrapositive statement to       "If 2*2 = 5, I will come first in class"

Did you mean to say " If 2*2  is equal to 5 then I will come first in class"?

This is a conditional statement.

To write a contrapositive of this statement, we flip the hypothesis and the conclusion and then negate both the hypothesis and the conclusion.

The if part contains the hypothesis - 2*2 is equal to 5

The then part contains the conclusion - I will come first in class

Negation - It is the opposite of the original statement. We write it as not

Contrapositive will be - If I will not come first in class then 2*2 is not equal to 5
