Recall what is a parabola

https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/quadratics/parabolas-intro-alg1/v/parabolas-intro

The vertex of  a parabola is the lowest point or the highest point of the parabola

The vertex of a parabola is the point at the intersection of the parabola and its line of symmetry.

For a parabola whose equation is given in standard form ax^{2} + bx +c

If a > 0 the parabola opens upward. This means that the vertex will be maximum if a >0

If a < 0 he parabola opens downward. This means the vertex will be minimum when a is negative

The vertex is given by the point (x,y) , where x is the axis of symmetry which can be found by the formula x = -\frac{b}{2a}
