STEP 1:

Before you can solve, you must write a system of equations. Let x = minutes, and let y =rows.

y = 4x+8

y=5x+7

STEP 2:

Recall on how to solve the system of equations with substitution method

ttps://www.qalaxia.com/viewDiscussion?messageId=5cd78ee7a969443b2fc8f122

Equate the equations across each other

4x + 8 = 5x + 7

x = 1

Now substitute this value of x in any one of the given equations, to find the value of y.

Plugging x = 1 in y = 4x + 8 we get y=12

So x  = minutes = 1 and y = rows =12.

In 1 minute, the groups will clean 12 rows each.

It said that it was 10 rows in 1 minute you were wrong

Jakyma, the answer should have been 12. I have made the corrrection. Please compare the actual numbers used in the question you are looking at and the question here. That's why the answers might be different. If you can post the link to what you are looking at, I can comment further.

No, it cannot be 10 rows, because when you plug in x =1, in either of the equations you get y = 12. This means that it is 12 rows.

You sure the problem you are referring to had the same digits?
